Management & Public Relations

WE ARE IN THE MIDST OF REVISING OUR management and pr POSITIONS FOR THE 2022-2023 SCHOOL YEAR. PLEASE CHECK BACK SOON FOR MORE INFORMATION. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE. 

Public Relations and Management are absolutely crucial to the success of our productions. Any student in the school is welcome to apply for these positions. We are ALWAYS looking for talented photographers, graphic designers, and people with excellent "people skills" to make our shows look and feel professional in every way. Come join us! Below is a list of the positions available in PR for each production. To apply for a position, you must come to the interview day at the beginning of each production. If you are applying for a design position, it is highly recommended that you bring a portfolio/sampling of your work. Before applying for a position, please make sure you review its duties and responsibilities in the description provided here--you will be held accountable for what's written. Here is a general list of all positions available positions in the PR/Management Team. There are a total of 12 positions available:

PR Director
Photographer
Videographer
Graphic Designer
Program Designer
House Manager
House Ushers (6 positions available)


Public Relations Director

This person is responsible in overseeing all aspects of this program for a given music, theatre, or musical theatre production. This person ensures that all deadlines are met and is in direct communication with the faculty in charge. This person is responsible for updating all PR information with Falcon News Feed, writing and submitting press releases for local news sources (i.e. The News & Observer), updating all social networks of information related to promoting the production, and assisting the rest of the team as needed with completing projects. This person needs to have outstanding leadership skills, is a great motivator, and is good with both peers and adults. This person will be required to hold PR/Management meetings with the entire team to ensure all deadlines are being met and the vision of the show is being fulfilled. 

Videographer(s)

This person will be responsible for creating a “film documentary” of the production. They will film rehearsals, interview cast and crew members, film construction & design work, and more. This person is essentially responsible for the “making of” documentary that will be available for all production team members. This person is also responsible for filming one major performance of a production for archival purposes only. It is expected that this person have access to a professional quality video camera and is comfortable with working on video software (i.e. Adobe, iMovie, Final Cut) for creating the film(s). 

House Manager

This person will be in charge of the house each night of a performance. This person is responsible for creating a schedule for ushers, and instructing ushers on jobs and tasks during a production as well as keeping everything on time. This person is responsible for recording the announcement that is made before each production about cellphone usage and electronic devices as well as any content warnings as needed. This person also works to ensure that seats and seating assignments are adhered to and also keeps up fire code regulations. This person must be very good with people, have an outgoing personality, and is a great leader. This person represents “the face” of our program in the eyes of the public during performances. This person is in direct contact with the faculty in charge during a performance to let him/her know any issues related to audience, the ticketing counter, the concession area, and more. This person must dress professionally for each performance and where a name tag that says “house manager.” This person is expected to show up one hour before the house opens, addresses people’s needs before, during, and after intermission, and stays for up to 30 minutes after the show ends to ensure the house is clean and ready for the next performance. 

Program Designer

​This person designs and creates the program for a given production. This person must be creative and tech savvy in order to meet the deadlines and needs of the program. This person will be indirect contact with the faculty in charge as well as the parent assistant with creating the program. This person will need to be able to work in program design software to create the pages that are needed. This person must have an excellent eye for grammar and spelling. This person is expected to make sure all names involved in the production are on the program. This person also makes sure commercial ads, personal ads, and acknowledgments are in the program. This person also creates the cast list, design & crew list, PR Team list, and general information about the play (i.e. how many acts, scenes, locations, length of intermission, and more). This person must be able to meet deadlines in order to have the program ready for publication. 

Photographer

​This person will take photos of the rehearsal process for a given production. This person is also responsible for taking black & white headshots of cast and head tech position leaders for a production as needed. This person will also take photos during the dress rehearsals and final dress rehearsals for promotional material and for memory. This person needs to have his/her own professional quality camera and is comfortable working with photography software (i.e. Photoshop) to create slide shows, do facial touch-ups on headshots, and more. This person will be responsible for creating a head shot/production slide show outside the auditorium that is shown before a performance and during its intermission. 

GRAPHIC Designer

​This person is responsible for designing the poster, t-shirts, and other promotional graphics for a given production. The poster designs must be original and follow all necessary copyright laws. This person will need to be able to submit to the faculty member in charge all designs in jpeg format for review and getting copies made. Every design MUST be approved by the faculty and school administration before distribution can happen. 

Ushers (6 per performance)

This person is in charge of taking tickets, passing out programs, and helping people find their seats during a performance. This person is expected to dress in black and white professional attire, where an usher name tag, and have a small LED flashlight to help people find their seats. This person must be familiar with all locations for emergency exits, bathrooms, and all entrances and exits of the building. This person is expected to stand through the performance to monitor the house for reasons of safety as well as maintaining a quality experience for everyone. This person will be expected to inform audience members if they are being disrespectful or taking flash photography or unauthorized video of a performance. This person is expected to show up 30 minutes before the house opens, help out during intermission, and must stay for 30 minutes after the show to pick up programs and clean the house for the next performance.
