Technical Crew

The technical crew of a show is responsible for creating the visual world in which the story takes place. We have lots of positions available for students interested in working the technical side of a theatre production. All positions are open to the entire school. Students interested in a position must go through an application/interview process at the beginning of each production. We will always announce ahead of time when interviews will be. If you are applying for a design position, it is not required, but highly recommended that you bring a portfolio of your work. Below is a list of all the positions we offer for each production here at Green Hope. It is expected that you read and understand the duties and responsibilities of the position you are applying for prior to the interview. Please know that if you are selected for this position, you will be held accountable for said duties and responsibilities.

Assistant Director

The Assistant Director is a student leadership role. Essential skills include (but are not limited to) excellent organizational skills, creative skills, leadership skills, communication skills, and experience as either an actor or in a leadership position in technical theatre. Commitment includes all rehearsals and productions. Open to juniors and seniors only.

Stage Manager

Stage Management is a student leadership position. Applicants need the following skills: organization, multi-tasking, communication, social media; previous experience in theatre productions also essential. The stage manager is also responsible for communicating all directions and instructions from the director and technical director both during and after school hours. Tasks include creating a prompt book that includes all blocking notes, line changes, light cues, sound cues, and other essential components of the production. During dress rehearsals and production, the SM will call the show from the control booth. Commitment level includes all rehearsals and productions.

Sound Designer / Operator/aSSISTANTS

Must have been trained on the sound board, have extensive knowledge of microphone systems, creating sound effects, creating playlists, and have worked at least one production as assistant sound board operator at Green Hope High School (or another venue of similar equipment). Commitment level includes most rehearsals, tech work calls, production week, and all productions.

Lighting Designer and Operator/assistant

Must be trained on the light board and have worked at least one production as an assistant light board operator at Green Hope High School (or another venue of similar equipment); Commitment level includes most rehearsals, all tech work calls, production week, and all productions.

Costume Designer/crew

The costume designer is responsible for designing and creating the costumes for a given production. Tasks include: making full-color renderings of each character, taking measurements of each cast member, ordering materials & costume pieces online, outfitting all cast members in costumes, organizing the costume ro0m, creating a costume plot for the production, and overseeing the dressers during performances. Must be available to shop independently after school for needed items. The costume assistants and dressers will help be responsible for all tasks delegated by the designer.

Crew Chief

Open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors only. Must have outstanding skills in carpentry. This position requires a full time commitment to ensure the set gets built. The crew chief is also responsible for organizing backstage crew members to help move set pieces on and off the stage during a show. The crew chief is expected to be present at every production meeting, most rehearsals, dress rehearsals and every performance.

Props Master/aSSISTANT

The props master is responsible for finding and/or making all the props for the production. The props master must be a strong independent worker and can meet all production deadlines. Essential skills include craftiness, creativity, communication, and organization skills. All props created must be approved by both Tech Director and Director. Commitment level includes on-going work on props as needed to meet production deadlines, production week, and all productions. The prop assistant carries out responsibilities delegated by the props master.

Assistant Stage Manager

Excellent organizational skills, communication skills are essential; some previous experience in the theatre productions is recommended—but not necessary. Commitment level includes all rehearsals and performances. Tasks include: organizing scene changes, prop organization, and any tasks delegated by the SM. The ASM is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the stage before and after rehearsals & performances. During performances, the ASM will be positioned on deck (either stage right or stage left) to serve the needs of that area.

Running Crew

Be prepared to move set pieces during production and assist with props. This will include carpentry work, painting work, craft work, and more. Must be a great listener, follower of directions, excellent independent worker, and a good communicator. Open to all grade levels. Commitment level includes tech work calls, production week, and productions. The running crew carries out responsibilities assigned by the crew chief.

make up designer/cREW

The make up designer is responsible for designing all the make up for each character in the production. Tasks include: making full color make up design of each character, searching and ordering make up products necessary for each production, and delegating responsibilities to the make up crew for the performances. Crew members need to apply make up according to the make up design during performances.

Hair designer

The hair designer is responsible for the hair designs for each character in the production. Tasks include creating a design plot and samples for all the characters in the production, searching and ordering hair products as needed, and overseeing the hair crew during production week and all performances. The crew members need to create the hair look according to the hair design during performances.

Student Technical Director/ ASSISTANT TD

The student technical director is an advanced student technician (typically a senior) who has been selected by Mr. C and Ms. Poppe that has shown advanced leadership and technical skills in several areas. The Student Technical Director will take on a major role in implementing the design and organizing the tech crew. This person is the student face of the technical crew.

The Assistant TD is typically a junior student who will work side by side with the Student Technical Directors and the Adult directors to implement the design of the show and organize the tech crew. This is an ideal position for students that wish to be Technical Director in the future.
